ELIMINATE PROPERTY TAXES

Texans are being increasingly taxed out of their homes, and the current Homestead exemption offered by the Texas Senate is merely a temporary fix to this growing problem, benefiting only a portion of Texans. The ongoing rise in property taxes impacts not just mortgage payments, but also rental prices, causing both to continuously  increase.

Several bills have been introduced in this Legislature aimed at abolishing property taxes, without harming the vital services funded by these taxes.

On the contrary to what Texans want, the Republican Speaker of the House, Dustin Burrows, has conspired with Arlington Democrat Representative Chris Turner to raise Property Taxes through HB 2786. This will result in a 10% increase every year.

The Texas activist group, Eliminate Property Taxes, has been working diligently with the Austin Legislature to propose various bills aimed at eliminating property taxes. These are HB960, HB1485, HB2194, HB2220.

How can we Eliminate Property Tax?

We can do it by abolishing 60+ taxes and implementing a 7% Consumption Tax instead. This would not only simplify our tax code, but also ensure that funding for our schools and cities remains unaffected while providing a fairer, more sustainable revenue model.

Why Eliminate Property Tax?

– Because Private Property Ownership is central to a free society.
– Because Property taxed is not owned at all.
– Because no tax should have the power to leave you homeless.

Would a consumption tax be enough to replace Property tax & others?

This is NOT adding "another new tax." Nor is it attempting a temporary workaround that like every past reform for the last 80+ years, would fail. Instead, it restructures the Texas tax system. Using a simple and efficient, consumption-based tax. On the simplest, macro-level, here's how it works. We need $117B to replace all revenue. Texas GDP is $2.6 Trillion. A tax rate of 7% on the whole economy would capture $182 Billion. If we exclude up to 35%, the net is $118B. That's more than sufficient.
